June7
Having a birthday in June is good, as it presents an opportunity to reflect both as a half-way point through the year and a start of a new age. This is also my first birthday with a blog. In the interest of full disclosure, I pause to reflect on the thoughts behind the face looking back at me in the mirror.

I recently launched www.mypizzapersonality.com to help you find your inner pizza and to help me answer a very critical question. This is the story behind the project.

My kid traded her bike for pavement last week in her participation of one of life’s more popular character-building exercises. As I conveyed the particulars of the gaping bone-revealing wound to my friends and colleagues, they responded in-kind with their own superman-flights off rooftops and stumbles down stairs. I took part in a collective farewell at a close friend’s memorial last week, gaining a deeper understanding of a woman who lived a selfless life and earned the commendation by many as a saint. I also came away with a sense that I am just not very good at funerals. …read more »

Three years ago, I sent a random post to a programming forum asking if anyone could put me up while I relocated to Queensland, Australia as my wife closed our affairs down south in Victoria. Friday night was a late one for me getting home from work, and I found myself eating cold mashed potatoes and sausages in the glow of midnight hour TV. As I downed my dinner, I briefly flicked through 90’s action movies, foreign art-house flicks and sports recaps before settling on Late Night with David Letterman. While Letterman’s talking head occasionally makes me laugh, tonight was the first time the monologue made me angry. …read more »

A final hospital visit has ended my lung lump saga with a name: chondroid hamartoma (roughly translated as “tough nodule”). The discovery makes me wonder if we might also have instances of emotional chondroid hamartoma scattered about our person. …read more »

Cabbies are interesting creatures. I am generally fascinated in most people, and individuals who cart folk around in four-wheeled climate change contribution contraptions are no exception*. In particular, two cab experiences in the past two days provide a valuable lesson on perspective.
