I was a ten years old when I first saw the tire swing diagram hanging on the wall of the family printed circuit board manufacturing company. I attended a leadership session a while back where an experienced leader in a non-profit made the statement that a team does not typically last more than five years. This has weighed heavily on me as I enter my fourth year as a manager and leader in my company. I recently relinquished my role of over three years as Production Manager as I grow with the company, and the prediction haunts me like a ticking self-termination time bomb. While we should be cautious based on market examples, research thankfully shows my fears of an early grave are unfounded.
