Team tenure, team duration, and team longevity: The fallacy of the five year failure

March5

I attended a leadership session a while back where an experienced leader in a non-profit made the statement that a team does not typically last more than five years.  This has weighed heavily on me as I enter my fourth year as a manager and leader in my company.  I recently relinquished my role of over three years as Production Manager as I grow with the company, and the prediction haunts me like a ticking self-termination time bomb.  While we should be cautious based on market examples, research thankfully shows my fears of an early grave are unfounded.

Symbolic interactionism, social media, and the Australian 2011 floods: Stepping stones in a crisis, or watering down reality?

January29

Social media played a huge part in the response efforts for the recent Queensland floods.  Reflecting back at the amount of time I spent glued to my iPhone, I wonder if the medium plays too large a part in our lives?

Calculate your goal setting chances of success (or, I really suck at jump rope)

January7

First week into the New Year and I am reminded why I wasn’t doing my resolutions before the first of January.  I’m just not that good at it.  Thankfully, competence is only one aspect of my 70% chance of keeping my commitment.
